Week 1 – Introduction to Papilio Series: Papilio Pins

— by

Please join us for a weekly article that introduces you to a new aspect of the Papilio Platform. One thing that is missing from the Papilio Wiki is a collection of articles that introduce a new user to the types of things that can be done with the Papilio. This series will start building up this introductory material by providing an introduction to a new topic every week.

The first topic? How the Papilio Wing Slot scheme works, did you know that you can address the Papilio pins using several different referencing schemes? If you are writing sketches you can address the first pin on Wing Slot A as: 0, A0, or AL0. Read the article for a deeper explanation of how pins can be referenced.

Next topics:

  • Moving peripherals between pins – i.e, moving SPI pins to where you need them.
  • VGA sketches – how to get started with generating VGA output.

If you have any Intro topics that you would like to see covered please respond in the comments section.

I’d love to see an “entry level” tutorial on using the Sump files to create a logic analyzer. My FPGA students could make good use of
a logic analyzer, but the experience level is usually hardware focused and few know how to run Java and so forth. A video showing exactly how to use it would be a great help.

    Thanks,
    JJ

Thank you, that is a great topic that I didn’t even think of. I just released the second tutorial and I put a “Sump” logic analyzer article as one of the next topics. 🙂

    Jack.
