Coming Soon: Papilio LogicStart MegaWing

— by

The LogicStart MegaWing is coming soon to a Gadget Factory store near you! We just finished verification of the board and the first production run is being initiated as we speak. In preparation we put together this video that gives a look at the LogicStart MegaWing in action.

What is the LogicStart MegaWing?

The LogicStart MegaWing came about as a response to the excellent VHDL tutorials that Mike Fields wrote. Mike indicated that he would have used a Papilio for the examples if he had the switches and such needed for the example. So we got together with Mike and asked him what would be the ideal hardware for learning VHDL and Digital Logic. The LogicStart MegaWing was the end result of that conversation. In short, the LogicStart MegaWing is a Digital Logic learning and experimentation board for your Papilio FPGA.

LogicStart MegaWing Features

  • 8 channel 12-bit SPI ADC
  • 8-bit (3r, 3g, 2b) VGA.
  • Mono audio jack that feeds to left and right outputs.
  • 8 slide switches
  • 8 LED’s
  • Micro Digital Joystick with 4 directions and select
  • 7 Segment display with control over A-G and DP segments.

Any feedback, suggestions, or questions regarding the LogicStart MegaWing are greatly appreciated. Head on over to the Gadget Factory forum to join the discussion.

I’m really looking forward to this. I’ve grabbed the text from my Wiki!, and now have 160 pages of text to update, reformat, expand and edit to reflect the Papilio + LogicStart combination.

Hopefully we will end up with a really nice practical intro to VHDL+FPGAs – any body want to add Verilog?
