Jerri Ellsworth uses Papilio in C64 Keytar!

— by

Hello everyone,

The amazing Jerri Ellsworth just released a video that show the internals of her C64 Bass Keytar, as seen at Maker Faire. We were happy to see that she used a Papilio board as the heart of the system!  It’s the same Papilio that is at the heart of the RetroCade Synth!

Sadly, she made her keytar before we released any information about the RetroCade Synth and ended up using a physical SID chip. Otherwise, with the RetroCade, she could have eliminated the SID chip and instantiated a six voice SID for a six string keytar!

This is an amazing example of what can be done with an FPGA solution like the RetroCade Synth!

As soon as the prototypes for the RetroCade MegaWing arrive I’m going to offer one to Jerri in case she feels inspired to make any more instruments! Maybe a six string Keytar that can also play Amiga MOD files for basslines and voice samples?
